Apple Watch Series 10

The Apple Watch Series 10, released in September 2024, is the 10th-anniversary model of Apple's popular wearable. The new model features a thinner, lighter design with a larger display, faster charging, and new health-focused features like sleep apnea notifications.

Key features

Refined design: The Series 10 is the thinnest and lightest Apple Watch ever. It has more rounded corners and a larger display in new 42mm and 46mm case sizes, up from the Series 9's 41mm and 45mm.

Wider, brighter display: The device has Apple's first wide-angle OLED screen, which provides a larger viewing area and appears up to 40% brighter when viewed from an angle.

Faster charging: A redesigned charging coil allows the Series 10 to charge to 80% in about 30 minutes. An 8-minute charge can provide up to 8 hours of sleep tracking.

Sleep apnea detection: A new algorithm analyzes nightly breathing patterns and can notify users if it detects consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea.

Aquatic features: New built-in sensors measure water depth and temperature, which are displayed in the updated Depth app for swimmers and snorkelers. A new Tides app also shows tidal information for coastlines.

New chip and watchOS 11: The S10 SiP (System in Package) is engineered for better performance and power efficiency. The watch also runs on watchOS 11, which introduces new features like the Vitals app and Training Load tracking.

Models and pricing

The Apple Watch Series 10 is available in both aluminum and titanium case materials.

Case materials and colors:

Aluminum: Comes in Jet Black (a new polished finish), Rose Gold, and Silver.

Titanium: Features a new polished finish and is available in Natural, Gold, and Slate colors.

Price: The Series 10 starts at $399 (U.S.) for the GPS-only model.

Should you upgrade?

The Series 10 is a worthwhile upgrade if you have a Series 5 or older model that is no longer receiving watchOS updates. If you have a Series 9, the choice is less clear. While the Series 10 offers several improvements, key software features like sleep apnea detection are also being made available to the Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Potential confusion: Apple Watch X

Leading up to the anniversary release, many rumors referred to the device as the "Apple Watch X" in a nod to the 10th-anniversary iPhone X. While the Series 10 incorporates many of the design changes rumored for the "X," Apple officially named the 2024 model the Apple Watch Series 10.
